Life begins with listening. When listening stops, any conversation is a lost battle. What really makes a conversation successful is not how well you can talk, but rather, how well you can listen. When you are able to perceive things internally without incompletions (hangovers from the past), life starts in you, relationships are built around you. When you listen without incompletions, the other person will not be able to agitate you. In any argument, in any conversation, this is the master key for success. In the modern-day, the ability to hold a conversation decides your success in your career and relationships. In any conversation, the person who gets agitated first loses the game.
A small joke: In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens. In the third year, they both speak and the neighbors listen!
When both speak and the neighbors listen, the relationship actually ends.
Listening is such a powerful and beautiful spiritual practice which can do so much to your being effortlessly. Right listening is nothing but allowing words to enter you as a natural flow without your attention being diverted towards your incompletions. Incompletions such as a fight which you had with somebody, depressing thoughts, feeling tired, bored or restless will disturb your cognition process and will not allow listening to happen. Just like how you switch off your cell-phone when you do not need it, while you are listening, you can tell your inner space that you will attend to all its questions, worries and thinking later on. By doing this you allow your being to internalize naturally.
Listening leads to more completion, and completion leads to more listening. They are two sides of the same coin. Same way, incompletion leads to poor listening, and vice-versa. For example, when you are angry, you think that by not listening to the person you can show your disrespect for them or take revenge on them. The unfortunate truth is that by not listening, you are actually abusing your own self.
The agitation caused by incompletions leads to blood-pressure, diabetes and degradation of the body which is the root cause of all the diseases and disorders. When you start cognizing without incompletions, your health improves. Your so called ‘stress’ is nothing but the interference of your incompletions during your listening. Life starts with listening, happens with listening, continues to exist with listening, and ends when listening stops.
